How the Bookies See it:
|Both Teams To Score||
- Arsenal’s Premier League form has been scratchy for most of the season. They have mixed in some sublime performances such as the recent 5-1 demolition over Everton with a number of subdued displays where they have clearly been second best. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest in only the third round, but they have shown their battling qualities in the EFL Cup to claim narrow victories over Doncaster Rovers, Norwich City, West Ham United and Chelsea on their way to the final.
- Manchester City have also had to work hard for their place in the final, with penalty shootout wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City followed by a stern test against Championship side Bristol City in the semi-finals. They also lost 1-0 to Wigan in one of the biggest FA Cup upsets in history on Tuesday, having previously been almost irresistible all season in building a 16-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Man City’s loss to Wigan sent shockwaves throughout the football world and highlights that anything can happen in a one-off cup tie. While an Arsenal win at Wembley would not be on the same scale, it is still unlikely that lightning will strike twice, and the bookies are justified in offering a price of around 8/13 on Man City.
Pep Guardiola’s resolve is only likely to have been strengthened by what happened against Wigan and he is sure to unleash a full-strength team on the Gunners, with David Silva and Leroy Sane now fully back to fitness and Gabriel Jesus also in contention. Arsenal, meanwhile, will be without the injured Alexandre Lacazette and the cup-tied Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Aaron Ramsey is also doubtful.
Arsenal still have the class to pose problems for Man City and could well nick a goal or two, but shutting them out at the other end will be a different matter. They were outclassed in a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium in November and a similar outcome can be expected. William Hill has odds of 15/8 on City winning the match and both teams scoring, while you can also back a 3-1 repeat at 11/1 if you fancy a flutter.
