The Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan in Marrakesh, Morocco, will be the stage for the second Formula E race of the season this Saturday 12th November. This is the first Marrakesh ePrix race in the history of Formula E, so there is no previous form on this street circuit for bettors to draw from, but the bookmakers have installed last season’s champion Sebastien Buemi as the favourite to win, and for good reason.

How the Bookies See It

  • Race 2 Winner: Sebastien Buemi 2/1, Jean-Eric Vergne 5/1, Lucas di Grassi 5/1, Nicolas Prost 6/1 – Ladbrokes
  • Championship Winner: Sebastien Buemi 11/10, Lucas di Grassi 4/1, Jean-Eric Vergne 6/1, Nicolas Prost 6/1 – Ladbrokes

Form

  • Sebastien Buemi got his 2016/17 campaign off to the best possible start by winning the Hong Kong ePrix for Renault e.Dams on 9th October. Buemi started in fifth place on the grid, but the race was anything but smooth, with several crashes occurring. The Swiss driver turned the chaos to his advantage, eventually getting to the head of the pack and then staying out of trouble to earn his first 25 points of the season.
  • Jean-Eric Vergne started from ninth on the grid for the new Techeetah team, but ended up retiring from the Hong Kong ePrix after his car suffered a power problem. The team later said that the problem was with the battery, and that things would be better for the next race in Marrakesh.
  • Lucas di Grassi was in 19th place on the grid when the race began in Hong Kong, but he put in a tremendous effort to navigate his way through the various incidents ahead of him and managed to achieve a second-place finish for ABT Schaeffler. That earned the Frenchman 18 points and puts him in second place for the Drivers’ Championship.
  • Nicolas Prost was another driver who defied a less than perfect qualifying position in the Hong Kong ePrix, and although he didn’t manage to get on the podium, he did move up from tenth on the grid to secure a fourth-placed finish. In doing so, he picked up 12 points for Renault e.Dams, putting the team on 37 points with nine races of the season left to go.

Sports.net’s View

Sebastien Buemi might not have had the pole position that he would undoubtedly have wanted in Hong Kong, but that didn’t prevent him from demonstrating why he was so successful in 2015/16. Lucas di Grassi also had a fantastic race, making up even more ground to finish in second place, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both of those drivers reach the podium this Saturday.

There was nothing wrong with Buemi’s performance in Hong Kong, so we see no justifiable reason to oppose him here. Instead, we will side with the Swiss driver to make it two from two.

  • Sports.net’s Top Tip: Sebastien Buemi to win the Marrakesh ePrix at 2/1 – Ladbrokes

*Please note, odds may change as the race approaches.
