The Houston Astros have had a great last few games, winning five consecutively and now face two sides they can be confident of beating. First, they go to the mid-table Seattle Mariners, before travelling to the struggling Oakland Athletics. There should be more success ahead for the Astros.
The Cleveland Indians are MLB’s form side, with a superb twelve straight wins to boast about. They can pick up more victories when they face bottom side Chicago White Sox, but the weekend fixtures might be a little bit more tricky against a dangerous looking Baltimore Orioles.
The Boston Red Sox are still third in the American League, but have won just once in their last four games and are hanging on to a Play Off place. They have a week of home games against the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays – two sides below mid-table, but two sides who can be a threat.
The LA Dodgers, so strong all season, have now won just twice in their last ten games. Confidence is bound to be low, and they face an Arizona Diamondbacks side who are very much on the up. They then have weekend fixtures against a Colorado Rockies side needing to get back to winning ways. It could be another tricky week for the Dodgers.
The Washington Nationals ended August well, but came unstuck when travelling to the Milwaukee Brewers, losing three of their four games against them. With games against the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies coming up, the Nationals will be keen to pick up a few more vital wins to maintain their push for the Play Offs.
Two sides that look like very strong shouts for victory this weekend are the Cleveland Indians at the Chicago White Sox, and the Washington Nationals who host the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in good form and can spring a surprise at the Play Off-chasing Chicago Cubs, whilst the St Louis Cardinals can keep their hopes of a Wild Card spot alive with wins at the San Diego Padres.
