How the Bookies See it

The Houston Astros continue to sit top of the American League, and this week enjoyed two convincing wins at the National League’s basement side, the Philadelphia Phillies. However, their third game in that series resulted in a shock 9-0 defeat to the Phillies, so the Astros will be keen to bounce back immediately. They travel to the Detroit Tigers, with the hosts coming into the weekend fixtures off the back of three defeats to the improving Kansas City Royals – the latest a crushing 16-2 loss. The Astros will fancy their chances of putting that Phillies setback behind them quickly.
The Cleveland Indians are on a roll of seven straight wins, which has seen them leapfrog the Boston Red Sox and move into second place in the American League. Three good wins at home against the LA Angels can be backed up with further wins when they travel to bottom side Chicago White Sox this weekend. Cleveland have been producing some big totals, although their latest win was just 2-1. However, they should have too much power for the White Sox, who have only managed eight scores in their last three games, all of them ending in defeat.
The LA Dodgers quickly put two successive defeats to the Atlanta Braves behind them, with five straight wins since maintaining their place at the top of the National League. With the visit of the struggling San Francisco Giants this weekend, the Dodgers will be confident of extending their winning streak further.
The Washington Nationals continue to sit second in the National League, having bounced back from an 8-0 trouncing by the Milwaukee Brewers to beat them in their next two games. The last was a devastating example of hitting as they ran out 15-2 winners. The Nationals welcome the Colorado Rockies this weekend, with the visitors clinging on to the last Wild Card place following three successive defeats to the St Louis Cardinals.
The Houston Astros are strong 1/2 favourites with Sky Bet to win at the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, but that 9-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies might have knocked some confidence so, at odds of 6/4 from Betfred, many might be optimistic about the Tigers pulling off the win.
The best value bet on Saturday is the Kansas City Royals to win at the Boston Red Sox. The two sides form couldn’t be more different, with the Red Sox having won once in their last five games, whilst the Royals have won their last eight. Although the Red Sox sit above the Royals in the standings, odds of 33/20 with William Hill for the Royals to prevail look too good to ignore for a team in such good form.
