Manchester United have barely been tested in their first three Premier League games, notching up three wins. Persistence paid off in their last run out, when they battered a stubborn Hull side, but couldn’t find the net until the second minute of second half injury time. Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has netted three times in three games and teenage sensation Marcus Rashford scored the deciding goal at the KCOM before hitting a hat trick for England Under 21s against Norway in midweek.
Manchester City sit top of the early Premier League table, having seen off Sunderland, Stoke and West Ham. They also destroyed Steaua Bucharest 6-0 on aggregate in Champions League qualifying, showing their goalscoring potential, but suspended Sergio Aguero will be missed, having bagged six goals already this season. Potential replacement 19-year-old Kelechi Iheanacho should be brimming with confidence after scoring a magnificent goal for Nigeria during the international break, but he has yet to strike in the league this term.
Even with Nolito and Raheem Sterling getting amongst the goals in recent weeks, losing Argentine talisman Aguero for the game at Old Trafford is a blow. If Iheanacho can find his domestic shooting boots he could cause a significant threat, but he has yet to prove that yet in domestic action so far this season
United’s Ibrahimovic has made no secret of his dislike of his former boss at Barcelona, calling Guardiola a “spineless coward” in his typically frank autobiography. The Swede has made a success of his first three games in English football and scoring against Pep’s side in the Manchester derby will have been high on his preseason to-do list. City have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their Premier League ties so far this year, making 11/2 from Coral on Ibrahimovic to strike first very tempting.
The sides are evenly matched, making a draw worth a look, but United could just edge it given their home advantage and City’s depleted strike force. With so much history between clubs, managers and players, it could be a tempestuous affair, making Bet365’s 9/4 on there being a sending off look like great value.
- Sports.net’s Top Tip - Ibrahimovic to score first at 11/2 with Coral
