How the Bookies See It
- Men’s Quadruple Sculls: Australia 8/13, Germany 10/3, Estonia 7/1, Great Britain 12/1 – Paddy Power
- Women’s Quadruple Sculls: Germany 8/13, Poland 9/2, Netherlands 5/1, Ukraine 6/1 – Ladbrokes
Men’s Quadruple Sculls Preview
Australia are the hot favourites to take gold in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls event, having recorded a time of 5:50.98 in the heats. Germany (5.53.63) made it into the final by winning the repechage yesterday with a time of 5:51.43, and Great Britain (5:52.77) finished in second place in the repechage with a time of 5:53.10. Estonia achieved a time of 5:51.71 in Heat 1 of the competition, where Germany finished in third place.
Although we would side with Australia to take the gold medal here, we would view Estonia as being the biggest danger, and the team could well relegate Germany to third place once again.
Women’s Quadruple Sculls Preview
Whilst the German men’s team had to make it to the final via the repechage, the German women’s team achieved the same outcome directly by winning their heat with a time of 6:30.86. The Netherlands (6:38.58) won the repechage with a time of 6:24.61, with Poland (6:33.43) finishing in second place, with a time of 6:25.49. Ukraine recorded a time of 6:35.48 in their heat.
With Germany having impressed so well in their heat, and with over 2.5 seconds to spare, we think they are hard to oppose to win the gold medal.
