Tottenham Hotspur’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season will be put to the test on Saturday when they travel across London to take on a Chelsea side in fantastic form. The Blues have powered their way to the top of the table and are being firmly backed by bookmakers to beat their London rivals.

How the Bookies See it

  • Winner: Chelsea 8/11, Draw 29/10, Tottenham 4/1 - BetVictor
  • First Goalscorer: Diego Costa 11/4, Eden Hazard 9/2, Pedro 6/1, Harry Kane 6/1 - Betfred
  • Correct Score: Draw 1-1 7/1, Chelsea 1-0 7/1, Chelsea 2-1 7/1 - William Hill

Form

  • Chelsea have been on a sensational run ever since losing 3-0 at Arsenal on 24th September. They have won six matches on the spin, scoring 17 goals and not conceding once, to move a point clear of their nearest rivals in the title race. Diego Costa is the top scorer in the league and netted the only goal of the game in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough last time out.
  • Tottenham are fifth in the league, still unbeaten after 12 games and just four points adrift of Chelsea. However, their recent form has been far from convincing and they needed two late goals from Harry Kane to beat West Ham United 3-2 last weekend and end a sequence of four consecutive draws. Spurs have also disappointed in Europe and crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday after a 2-1 loss to Monaco.
  • Both of the matches between the teams last season finished as draws, including a 2-2 thriller at Stamford Bridge in May. Chelsea’s comeback from 2-0 down in that game not only clinched the Premier League title for Leicester City, but also denied Spurs a first win at Stamford Bridge since 1990.

Sports.net’s View

Chelsea’s exceptional form, their home record against Tottenham and the fact that Spurs are coming off a demoralising trip to France in midweek all point towards a victory for the home side. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were stung by their Champions League elimination and will be determined to keep their unbeaten league record intact. They will still be without key defender Toby Alderweireld due to injury, a situation that has led to a previously solid back four looking decidedly shaky in the last couple of games.

Pochettino may have to adopt a new approach to try and shackle Chelsea’s main creative forces, and the idea of getting Mousa Dembele to man-mark Belgian compatriot Eden Hazard has been suggested as a possible solution. Regardless of what he tries, though, Chelsea have hit upon a very successful formula with their 3-4-3 formation and seem to have found a perfect balance between attack and defence.

Spurs are sure to make Chelsea work hard for a seventh straight win, but the momentum is all with the Blues and another narrow 1-0 victory like last weekend looks well worth a flutter at odds of 15/2 with BetVictor.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Chelsea to win 1-0 - 15/2 at BetVictor.
