Saturday’s late kick off in the Premier League sees Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur, with both teams looking to pick up precious points in the race for a place in next season’s Champions League. The Reds have been struggling in 2017 and could be in for a rough ride against a rampant Spurs side who are unbeaten in all competitions since mid-December. Will the home fans be in for another afternoon of disappointment or will the visitors’ rotten record at Anfield prove a hindrance?

How the Bookies See it

  • Winner: Liverpool 5/4, Draw 23/10, Tottenham 23/10 - Bet365
  • First Goalscorer: Harry Kane (TOT) 5/1, Daniel Sturridge (LIV) 11/2, Divock Origi (LIV) 11/1 - Sky Bet
  • Correct Score: Draw 1-1 11/2, Liverpool 1-0 8/1, Liverpool 2-1 9/1 - Bet365

Form

  • Liverpool’s season has been left in tatters following a run of ten games with just one win, a sequence of results that has seen the Reds dumped out of the EFL Cup, FA Cup and the title race. Having made it through a year without defeat at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s men promptly lost on home soil to Swansea, Southampton and Wolves, all within the space of a week, before a 1-1 draw with Chelsea helped stop the rot. However, last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City was another nail in the coffin marked ‘Liverpool’s 2016/17 season’.
  • Tottenham Hotspur have started the year in fine form, racking up six wins in eight games, including a 2-0 win over Premier League title favourites Chelsea. Despite a number of impressive performances both at home and on the road, the White Hart Lane club have been forced to dig deep of late, settling for a point against Sunderland, before grinding out a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Middlesbrough.

Sports.net’s View

Following their embarrassing defeat to Hull, Jurgen Klopp publically shamed his Liverpool side, saying: “we are producing our own problems.” It is now up to the charismatic German to turn things around at Anfield before matters get any worse. Following this slam, the Reds, who fell out of the Premier League’s top four last weekend, will be looking to learn from their mistakes and come out fighting against a Tottenham side who have recorded just one win at Anfield since the start of the new millennium. A three-point haul for the home side is fairly priced at 5/4 with BetVictor, while a victory in which both teams find the net looks even more tempting at 10/3 with Bet365.

It isn’t just Tottenham’s record at Anfield which is shameful. The North London side have not beaten their Premier League counterparts since November 2012, when goals from Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale secured a 2-1 victory. Since that day, Spurs have lost six of their last nine meetings with Liverpool, shipping 22 goals and scoring just seven. However, with the Reds looking wounded, Mauricio Pochettino's men might deem it a missed opportunity if they leave Merseyside empty-handed. An away win is priced at 23/10 with Bet365, while a win to nil looks good value at 5/1.

There is no doubting that this is a huge game, especially as the race for the top four heats up, and Klopp’s Liverpool don’t often shy away from the big matches. The Reds are yet to lose to one of the division’s top six and aren’t likely to surrender this record easily. With that in mind, a share of the spoils could be worth backing at 23/10 with Bet365, while a 1-1 draw looks even more enticing at 6/1 with BetVictor.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Correct score 1-1 - 6/1 with BetVictor
