After a break for the quarter finals of the Challenge Cup, Super League reconvenes this weekend and, with just four rounds to go of the regular season, the action is likely to be intense. Leaders Hull FC take on lowly Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday night, with second-placed Wigan Warriors facing the long trip to the south of France on Saturday to play Catalans Dragons. Could this be Hull’s chance to put a bit of daylight between the two clubs and place one hand tentatively on the league leader’s shield?

How the Bookies See it:

  • Huddersfield v Hull: Hull 2/5, Huddersfield 37/19, Draw 25/1 - 888Sport
  • Catalans v Wigan: Catalans 8/11, Wigan 6/5, Draw 20/1 - Betfred
  • Super League Regular Season Winner: Hull 1/4, Wigan 5/1, Warrington 9/1

Form:

  • Hull have now racked up ten wins in a row in all competitions, leading the Super League table by two points and lining up a Challenge Cup semi final with Wigan. Huddersfield, on the other hand, sit one place above Leeds Rhinos at the bottom of the pile, with just four wins in their last ten Super League appearances.
  • Catalans lost last time out to Warrington Wolves, but have put together a strong run that sees them holding on to an outside chance of topping the table going into the Super 8s. Wigan have two points on their opponents in the rankings and are enjoying a run of five wins in a row. Defeat could not only see them begin to lose sight of Hull, but they would also drop at least one place in the rankings thanks to Catalans’ superior points difference.

Sports.net’s View:

Although many pundits have expected Hull to drop off at some point, they are still going strong and lead the pack on merit. They have beaten strong opposition well in recent weeks, including last Saturday’s 22-8 Challenge Cup win over Catalans, so they should have far too much for Huddersfield. An outright win bet, at 2/5 with 888Sport, will not yield a great return, so it is better to look at the winning margin market. Bet365’s 6/4 on the Black and Whites to prevail by 13 or more points is a good shout, although if you think they will be more cautious as they seek the win they need to step closer to glory, the same bookie has 21/10 on a Hull win of between one and 12 points.

In Perpignan, there is likely to be a barnstorming game as second plays fourth. Wigan know that defeat could leave them at the bottom of the mini-league of four teams who still have a chance of topping the table. It is a tough journey to make to play against a Catalans side that haven’t been beaten in Super League by more than two points since March. As such, you might expect the lead to change hands regularly throughout a nervy encounter. Sky Bet has a tempting 8/1 on Catalans to be leading at half time and Wigan to win the game, but home advantage may dictate the opposite outcome being more likely and the same bookie’s 15/2 on the French side prevailing after Wigan edge the first half seems a good bet.

  • Sports.net’s top tip - Hull to win by 13 or more points - 6/4 at Bet365

Please note odds can fluctuate in the lead up to matches taking place.
