An itinerary identical to the 2016 outing at Corsica is lined up, with some shortened stages reducing the competitive distance from 390.92km to 316.76km this year. It may be a shorter distance over which the drivers will compete, but the narrow twisty roads are what give the event the nickname “The Rally of 10,000 Corners”, although Hayden Paddon isn’t convinced:
How the Bookies See It
- Tour de Corse – Rally France winner: Ogier 6/4, Neuville 9/4, Meeke 7/2, Latvala 15/2 - Bet365
- Podium Finish: Ogier 2/7, Neuville 4/7, Meeke 11/8 - Sky Bet
- Winning Team: M-Sport 21/20, Hyundai 11/10, Citroen 16/5, Toyota 9/1 - Sky Bet
Sebastien Ogier was the 2016 Corsica winner after beating Belgium’s Thierry Neuville by 46.4 seconds, with (then) teammate Andreas Mikkelsen in third place a further 23.6 seconds behind. A strong victory here previously, combined with an early victory in the 2017 season at Monte Carlo, gives Ogier every chance of a finish at the top of the podium.
Kris Meeke will be returning for Corsica after that tense race to the finish at Mexico. The Citroen driver will be joined by teammates Craig Breen and Stephane Lefebvre in the Citroen C3 WRC. Breen’s impressive times here last year earned him 5th place overall, which means he shouldn’t be ruled out for a stronger performance this year. The 27-year-old Irishman is impressing as he gets more time behind the wheel and, although a win (28/1 at Bet365) might be beyond him this weekend, Sky Bet's 4/1 on a podium finish is very tempting.
Early season troubles for Thierry Neuville meant that he lost out on a podium finish at Monte Carlo and Sweden, however the Hyundai driver’s unlucky streak seemed to come to an end in Mexico, landing him a spot on the podium and third position overall. If Neuville can put pressure on the other drivers in Corsica in the way he’s proven capable of so far this season, he could be in with a chance of another podium finish, if not a victory here. You'll find 4/7 on a podium finish and 2/1 on a win for Neuville at Sky Bet.
