The second round of the FA Cup takes place this weekend, as teams from the lower levels of English football dream of setting up a famous tie against one of the giants of the game in the third round. Can the likes of AFC Fylde, Hereford, Slough Town and Leatherhead progress past Football League opposition?

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic

AFC Fylde are currently 16th in the National League, but they are in decent form and booked a home date with Wigan after seeing off Kidderminster Harriers in the first round. Wigan, who overcame Crawley Town 2-1 in round one, are the highest-ranked team in the competition after moving top of League One last Saturday. A Friday night trip to Mill Farm will be a new experience for a team which won the FA Cup just four and a half years ago, so it might be worth backing the non-league side to earn a replay at odds of around 18/5.

Fleetwood Town v Hereford

Fleetwood have slipped to 10th in League One following a run of five matches without a win, while they also needed an injury-time goal from Jack Sowerby to get past Chorley in the first round of the FA Cup. Hereford, meanwhile, are flying high in second place in the Southern League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football, and beat Telford United from the league above them in the first round. There will be a huge gulf to make up at Highbury on Saturday but with so much belief in the squad, it should be a thrilling spectacle. While a victory may be beyond Hereford, you can find odds of 11/5 with William Hill on Fleetwood to win and both teams to score.

Wycombe Wanderers v Leatherhead

Wycombe occupy fifth spot in League Two following a decent start to the season and are coming off the back of a 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town. Having beaten Solihull Motors 2-0 away from home in the last round, they must now face another non-league outfit in Leatherhead. The Tanners, 13th in the seventh-tier Isthmian League Premier Division, but with games in hand on most of their rivals, beat Billericay Town in a replay in the first round. It will be a much stiffer challenge on their hands at Adams Park, and Wycombe look a decent bet at 21/20 to win to nil.

Slough Town v Rochdale

One place and one point behind Hereford in the Southern League Premier Division, Slough have already enjoyed a terrific FA Cup run. They hammered Gainsborough Trinity - from a higher division - 6-0 away from home in the first round, and will fancy their chances of causing an even greater upset against Rochdale. Keith Hill’s League One side brushed aside fifth-tier Bromley 4-0 in the last round and will be hoping to do something similar, but they are hovering just above the relegation zone at present and could have a difficult game on their hands. Don’t be surprised if Slough give them a huge scare and even manage to force a draw.
