The Boston Red Sox continue their impressive start to their season, boasting a record of 15-2 to comfortably lead the AL East and the American League overall. The Los Angeles Angels have also continued their good start to the campaign, with 13 wins from 18 games, but they were beaten heavily by the dominant Red Sox. The Angels do remain top of the AL West Division, though. The Minnesota Twins remain top of the AL Central and third in the American League, having boosted their figures to 8-5. The Toronto Blue Jays lie fourth and in the first Wild Card position with a record of 12-5, whilst current World Series Champions, the Houston Astros, occupy the final AL Wild Card spot with a return of 12-7 from 19 fixtures.
The New York Mets have remained top of the National League and NL East after an impressive 13 wins from their opening 17 games. A good start from the Arizona Diamondbacks sees them sitting second in the National League and top of the NL West Division, returning figures of 12-5, whilst the Pittsburgh Pirates, top of the NL Central, sit third in the National League with a record of 12-6. The Atlanta Braves occupy the first NL Wild Card place with 10 wins from 17 games, with the Philadelphia Phillies in the final Wild Card spot following a 10-7 return.
A’s Look to Halt the Red Sox Run
There should be plenty of action at the Oakland Coliseum when American League leaders, the Boston Red Sox, travel to face the Athletics for a three-game weekend series. Both sides have already hit over 100 runs each, but the Athletics have almost conceded 100 runs too. It’s hard to see anything other than more success for a Red Sox outfit that has been impressive so far.
The LA Angels will be glad to see the back of the Red Sox after a punishing run of defeats this week. They welcome their rivals, the San Francisco Giants, to the Angel Stadium of Anaheim for a three-game series this weekend. The Giants have made a slow start to their campaign, showing a record of 7-10, so the Angels could get back to winning ways quickly.
The New York Mets have continued to make a good start to the season to lead the National League, but they face a tough trip to SunTrust Park to face the Atlanta Braves. These sides sit first and second in the NL East Division, so this four-game series is huge for both teams. The Mets recently lost twice against the Washington Nationals to damage their good start, whilst the Braves are having an inconsistent run of form. This is sure to be a close encounter, but the Mets will be confident of picking up a couple of wins at least.
The Arizona Diamondbacks welcome the San Diego Padres to Chase Field for a three-game series this weekend and will be confident of continuing a good start to the season. The Diamondbacks boast a record of 12-5 from 17 games, whilst the Padres have managed just seven wins from 20 fixtures. The Diamondbacks should enjoy more success.
The Houston Astros won’t be overly pleased with their start to the season but can be confident of getting wins at the Chicago White Sox. The home side have managed just four wins from 15 games, scoring just 62 runs. The Astros have enjoyed a confidence-boosting run of results against the Seattle Mariners and will arrive at Guaranteed Rate Field looking to notch up some more wins.
The St Louis Cardinals are on a run of five wins in a row going into their three-game weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds. The visitors sit bottom of the National League, having won just three games from 18. An in-form Cardinals side are odds-on to continue their winning streak against the Reds.

The Toronto Blue Jays have had their most successful start to a season since 2009, yet they still go into their four-game series with the New York Yankees this weekend as underdogs. They’re currently second in the AL East, one place above the Yankees, who are clinging on to their .500 start to the season. The Yankees hold a lifetime record of .548 over the Blue Jays, but honours have been even over the last 12 meetings. A Blue Jays win is far from implausible.
