Sunday 7th August

There will be 14 gold medals given away on day two of the Olympics and it could be a day to remember for Team GB, with Lizzie Armitstead hoping to put recent controversy about missed drugs tests behind her by improving on her silver in the London 2012 road race. Adam Peaty is the man to watch for Great Britain in the pool, while there are a host of other exciting events to follow across Rio de Janeiro.

Pick of the Medal Events

Cycling: Women’s Road Race (16:15 BST) - Lizzie Armitstead will be under intense scrutiny as she battles it out for gold against reigning champion Marianne Vos and the highly-fancied Anna van der Breggen.

  • Odds: Anna van der Breggen 4/1, Lizzie Armitstead 9/2, Marianne Vos 5/1 - Betfred

Swimming: Men’s 100m Breaststroke Final (02:53 Monday BST) - Adam Peaty could become the first British man to win a swimming gold medal since Adrian Moorhouse in 1988, but must cope with the pressure of being favourite.

  • Odds: Adam Peaty 1/5, Cameron van der Burgh 11/2, Kevin Cordes 14/1 - William Hill

Women’s 400m Freestyle Final (03:51 Monday BST) - Katie Ledecky, a US swimmer destined for greatness, could emerge as one of the biggest stars of Rio 2016. Britain’s Jazz Carlin might just grab a medal.

  • Odds: Katie Ledecky 1/50, Leah Smith 12/1, Boglarka Kapas 23/1 - Bet 365

Best of the Rest

Judo: Men’s -66kg (14:00) - Colin Oates made the quarter-finals four years ago but has since become Commonwealth champion.

Rowing: Heats (from 12:30pm) - Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, who are unbeaten in the women’s coxless pair in four years, are among the Brits in action.

Rugby Sevens: Women’s Quarter-Finals (21:00) - Team GB should be involved in the knockout stages after completing their group matches earlier in the day.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Adam Peaty to win the men’s 100 breaststroke - 1/3 at Ladbrokes
