Super League 2017’s Round 12 kicks off on Thursday night with all 12 teams having now played an equal number of games, giving a clearer view on how the second half of the regular season may pan out. Leeds Rhinos, who sit in second behind Castleford Tigers on points difference alone, host second-bottom Huddersfield Giants, whilst Warrington visit high-flying Hull in the two televised games this weekend. Take a look at Sports.net’s preview.

How the Bookies See it

  • Leeds v Huddersfield: Leeds 2/9, Huddersfield 3/1, Draw 25/1 - Betfred
  • Hull v Warrington: Hull 1/3, Warrington 11/5, Draw 22/1 - Paddy Power

Form:

Leeds Rhinos’ 25-14 reverse to Warrington in Round 8 is their only defeat in the last seven games, a run that includes a 26-18 victory over Wigan and a 28-12 win over this week’s opponents on their own patch. Kallum Watkins, the 22-point hero from their most recent outing, against Widnes, will be keen to replicate that performance to celebrate his call-up this week for England’s Test against Samoa next month.

Huddersfield Giants have not won since the 24th February, when they beat Wakefield Trinity 24-16. Six defeats and two draws since have left them floundering near the foot of the table, although they put in an encouraging performance to lead Warrington 20-16 at the hour mark last time out, only to fall to a 26-24 loss. Scotland skipper Danny Brough bagged eight points on the day, but agonisingly missed out on kicking another two in the last act of the game, which would have secured a draw.

Hull FC are riding high from a 26-24 defeat of leaders Castleford Tigers on Sunday. Even Liam Watts’ sending off in the 22nd minute, with the score at 18-0 in the Black and Whites’ favour, couldn’t ruin the day for the East Yorkshire side as they battled valiantly to keep hold of the two points. Hull have now won six and drawn one of their last nine games, and sit in third in the table, a point off the top spot.

Warrington Wolves are now Super League’s form team, after having made a disastrous start to the season. Six defeats on the spin ended with a 22-22 draw at home to this weekend’s opponents, before the Cheshire club claimed the scalps of Leeds, Widnes, Huddersfield and Wakefield in their last four matches. The Wire had to come from behind for the second time in two games to pip Trinity 22-20 last Saturday, showing that the breaks really have started to fall their way.

Sports.net’s View

With 2/9 the best price on a straight Leeds win, punters will want to look elsewhere for a worthwhile bet on this game that seems about as one-sided as they come. William Hill has evens on Rhinos overcoming Huddersfield with a handicap of 16, whilst the same bookmaker’s 11/8 for a 20 point penalty is not beyond the realms of possibility. Giants were inches from a third draw of the season last time out, and brave bettors might be tempted with Betfred’s 25/1 on this tie ending all square.

The real value of the weekend seems to be at the KCOM, where in-form Warrington are 11/5 with Betfred to succeed. Hull are a mighty force and Wolves have ridden their luck in recent weeks, but that is a tempting price given the newfound confidence flowing through the squad. A more cautious bet would be William Hill’s 11/10 on Wolves with a four-point headstart, or maybe evens for a six-point positive handicap, but the away side’s momentum should carry them through.

  • Sports.net’s Top Tip: Warrington to beat Hull at 11/5 with Paddy Power
