The final race of the 2017 MotoGP season gives us the finale everyone wanted, as reigning champion and home favourite, Marc Marquez, goes head-to-head with Italian, Andrea Dovizioso, in a bid to be named this year’s world champion at the Valencia MotoGP.

The Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana has been held at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo every year since 1999. This was also the same year the venue was completed, with the event now the traditional end of season finale. Huge crowds of up to 150,000 people create an electric atmosphere, with the stadium-style nature of the stands around the track allowing fans to view the whole circuit.

Find out who could clinch a win to bring the curtain down on a fine season in Sports.net’s Valencia MotoGP 2017 betting preview

Form

A strong finish to the season makes Marc Marquez the firm favourite to retain his world title, but his fourth-place finish in Malaysia has left the door ajar slightly. He will be roared on by a passionate local crowd and effectively only needs to finish in the top 12 to seal another championship. He has finished second at Valencia over the last two years, but won here in 2014. He should do enough to win the title, but a race win is unlikely as he might take it a bit easier to ensure he gets around the track.

With all the pressure on Andrea Dovizioso to win in Malaysia, he produced a superb race to extend his chances of securing a first world championship. He needs to win again in Valencia to have any hope but, unfortunately for the Italian, he doesn’t have a great record here. His best finish was third back in 2011, but he has failed to finish on the podium since.

Jorge Lorenzo will once again be looking to help his Ducati team mate, Dovizioso, any way he can. These two were well clear in Malaysia to record a Ducati 1-2, and something similar might unfold here. Lorenzo has a great record in Valencia as well, having won this race the past two years, as well as in 2013 and 2010.

Sports.net's View

With Marc Marquez closing in on the title, but once again not needing to win, his 2/1 from William Hill look too short, despite a good record here. Dovizioso (5/2 with 888Sport) also looks too short a price at a track where his recent efforts here haven’t been great. Jorge Lorenzo, however, does have an excellent Valencia record and gives him much more appeal at 8/1 with 888Sport.

Andrea Iannone finished third here last year, so looks a good each-way bet at odds of 33/1 with William Hill to win, whilst Johan Zarco has raced well in his last two races in Malaysia and Australia, and offers excellent 20/1 each-way value again with 888.
