The Phillip Island Circuit is located 87 miles southeast of Melbourne and has become one of the most iconic venues on the MotoGP schedule, drawing crowds from across Australia.
Newly crowned World Champion, Marc Marquez, delivered a tenth win of the season in Japan last week to take his points tally to 350, and increase his lead in the World Standings to an unbelievable 119 points. Andrea Dovizioso, second in the title race, finished third at the Motegi Twin Ring Circuit last weekend and now enjoys a 55-point cushion ahead of Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales, who are both on 176 points.
Danilo Petrucci and Fabio Quartararo make up the top six and are in contention for snatching a top-three position at the end of the season.

Previous Australian MotoGP Results
Marc Marquez, fresh from securing his eighth world title, showed no sign of letting up when securing a tenth win of the season in Japan last weekend. He has had mixed fortunes at Phillip Island in recent years, winning at the circuit in 2015 and 2017, but being forced to retire early in 2014, 2016 and last year. Perhaps the lesson is, if he finishes, he tends to win.
Andrea Dovizioso can secure the runners-up spot in the World Standings for a second successive season if positioning well this weekend. However, this is a track he has never won at, and like Marquez, he has had mixed results in previous years. He repeated his best result in Australia last year when finishing third, but that was his first podium finish at the circuit since 2011, when he also finished third. He did finish fourth in 2014 and 2016 but has generally struggled at the track.
Alex Rins has had two attempts to win a MotoGP race at the Phillip Island Circuit, finishing eighth in his first season, before a fifth-place finish last year. Can he continue to move up the positions and take a podium spot?
Two successive runners-up positions in Thailand and Japan has seen Fabio Quartararo move up to sixth in the World Standings, and he has put himself in with a chance of a brilliant top five finish in his debut MotoGP season. Can his podium run continue in Australia?
Other winners in Australia over the last five years include Maverick Vinales, who won here last year and has made the podium for the past three seasons. Also, Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi have enjoyed success at Phillip Island in 2016 and 2014, respectively.
Top Betting Tips for MotoGP Australian 2019
Marc Marquez goes into the race as the odds on 9/10 favourite and will be the one to beat once more. Fabio Quartararo is the 7/2 second favourite after his recent impressive results, whilst last year’s winner, Maverick Vinales, is the 11/2 third favourite and looks a good each-way bet.
Alex Rins has improved his positions at Phillip Island over the last two years, so comes into contention to improve further and take a podium place and looks a good each-way option at 23/2.
