Euro 2016: Slovakia v England Betting Tips

England face Slovakia on Monday evening as they seek to secure top spot in Group B and march on at Euro 2016. Roy Hodgson’s side have been involved in a couple of dramatic fixtures so far but Daniel Sturridge’s last-gasp winner against Wales has left them with their fate in their own hands going into their final group encounter.

Slovakia are also very much in contention to go through to the last 16 and will be setting their sights on a famous scalp in Saint-Etienne. The bookmakers have made their predictions, including some intriguing wagers in the first goalscorer market, and have made England favourites for victory.

How the Bookies see it

  • Match Winner: England 3/4, Draw 13/5, Slovakia 19/5 - Sky Bet
  • Half-Time/Full-Time: England/England 19/10, Draw/England 13/4, Draw/Draw 19/5 - Coral
  • Correct Score: England 1-0 11/2, Draw 1-1 13/2, England 2-0 8/1 - BetVictor
  • First Goalscorer: Harry Kane 9/2, Sturridge 5/1, Jamie Vardy 11/2 - Paddy Power

For England it has been a tale of late goals, after they conceded an injury-time equaliser to draw 1-1 with Russia in their opening match but then struck in stoppage time to beat Wales 2-1 and move to the top of the group.

Slovakia slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Wales before bouncing back in style with an impressive 2-1 victory over Russia. They are currently third in the group, just behind England and Wales and two points clear of bottom-placed Russia.’s view

It has been a strange tournament for England, having been widely praised despite their draw with Russia and then needing to come from behind to defeat Wales. Qualification is already virtually assured but they will be desperate to win the group and book a theoretically kinder draw for the next round, so Hodgson’s approach should be just as positive as it was in the second half against Wales.

There have been some encouraging signs from England as an attacking force and if all the pieces can be stitched together there should be plenty of chances against a Slovakia side which has looked better going forward than sitting back. Slovakia were perhaps unfortunate to lose to Wales, they won 3-1 in Germany just a few weeks ago and, in Marek Hamsik, they have one of the players of the tournament so far.

Slovakia, like England, are in control of their own destiny and could very well win the group with a victory. The odds of an England win at 3/4 with Sky Bet will tempt many punters but an even better price might be the 11/10 offered by Coral on both teams to score.

•’s top tip: Both teams to score - 11/10 at Coral
