MLB 2017 Play-Offs Week 1 Betting Preview

Updated Monday 9th October 2017, 06:26 AM

This year’s Major League Baseball season has reached the Wild Card and Play-Off games. Safely into the Play-Offs from the American League are winners, the Cleveland Indians, who also won the AL Central Division. They will be joined by AL West Division winners, the Houston Astros, the Boston Red Sox, who won the AL East Division and Wild Card winners the New York Yankees.

Qualifying for the Play-Offs from the National League are winners, the LA Dodgers who also won the NL West Division. They will be joined by the Washington Nationals who won the NL East Division, and the Chicago Cubs, winners of the NL Central Division. The National League Wild Card teams have both come from the NL West Division and they are runners-up, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, who finished third.

The Games

The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins at Yankees Stadium on Tuesday night, earning the right to face the Cleveland Indians in the Play-Offs. That game is followed by the second Wild Card game, as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field in Phoenix. The winner of that game will face the LA Dodgers in the Play-Offs.

Later in the week, the Houston Astros face the Boston Red Sox over five games as they both attempt to reach the semi-finals. There are three games at Minute Maid Park, the home of the Astros, and two games in Boston at Fenway Park. Elsewhere, the Washington Nationals face the Chicago Cubs, with three of the five Play-Off games taking place at Nationals Park, with two games at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.

The Yankees face the Cleveland Indians over five games, with three held at Cleveland’s Progressive Field, and the other two at Yankee Stadium

The winner between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will face the LA Dodgers over five games too. Three of which will be held at Dodger Stadium with the other two played at the home of the National League Wild Card game.

The Bets

The Houston Astros faced the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in the final four games of the regular season, with the Astros claiming three wins. There were some tight wins for the Astros, 4-3 and 3-2, but they also managed a convincing 12-2 success. The sole victory for the Red Sox was by 6-3. Based on this, it would be hard to back against the Astros, who also boasted a better overall season record and should make the semi-finals.

The Washington Nationals finished the regular season with an indifferent record of five wins and five defeats in their last ten games, whilst their Play-Off opponents, the Chicago Cubs, ended the season with just three defeats from their final ten games. This one should be a close affair over the five games and a lot will depend on whether the Nationals can take advantage of their three home games. They should just edge through to the semi-finals.
