Japan is home to MotoGP superpowers Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki, so interest in this race is enormous each year. The Motegi Twin Ring Circuit has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar since 1999, but the very first Japanese Grand Prix was held back in 1963 at the Suzuka circuit.
Marc Marquez produced his ninth win of the season and third success in a row at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand two weeks ago to secure an incredible eighth world title. A magnificent achievement by the Spanish superstar who now boasts a 110-point lead and has already surpassed his 321 points of last season, with four races still to contest.
Andrea Dovizioso sits in second place in the World Standings, but he has a comfortable 48-point cushion ahead of Alex Rins in third. Just five points separate Rins, Maverick Vinales in fourth and Danilo Petrucci in fifth place.

Previous Japan MotoGP Results
Marc Marquez goes in search of a tenth win of the season in Japan, at a track he won at in 2016 and 2018. The Spaniard was also runner-up at the Motegi Twin Ring Circuit in 2013, 2014, and 2017 – so his record here is impressive.
Andrea Dovizioso, currently second in the World Standings, has had a mixed record in Japan over the last five years, making the podium twice. That included a runner-up position in 2016, before he won the race in 2017, beating Marquez by +0.249 seconds. However, last season, despite claiming Pole Position, Dovizioso had a race to forget, eventually finishing down in 18th-place.
Alex Rins has had two attempts to win a MotoGP race at the Motegi Twin Ring Circuit, finishing fifth in his first season, before making the podium last year when third. He will hope to continue that progress with an even better position this time.
Other winners in Japan over the last five years include Jorge Lorenzo in 2014, Dani Pedrosa in 2015, whilst Cal Crutchlow finished runner-up last year between Marquez and Rins.
Top Betting Tips for MotoGP Japan 2019
It is no surprise to see Marc Marquez as the favourite once again, given the form he is in. At odds of Evens, they are quite generous compared to some of his recent prices, but having wrapped up the championship, will he still have the hunger this week?
Maverick Vinales has been in excellent form recently, so his 11/2 odds are tempting for an each-way bet. The same can be said about Fabio Quartararo who was second in Thailand a fortnight ago and appeals at 13/2.
At a bigger price, Alex Rins 12/1 price stands out and should be a definite each-way punt, as should Cal Crutchlow at 28/1, after finishing runner up in Japan last year.
