Olympics 2016: Day 1 Preview

Following a few early football matches and the glitzy excitement of the opening ceremony, the action really gets into full swing on Saturday. The first 12 gold medals of the Games will be given away, starting with the women’s 10m air rifle at 12.30pm BST. Tour de France champion Chris Froome and swimmers James Guy and Hannah Miley are among the British contenders later in the day.

Cycling: Men’s Road Race (13.30pm) - Chris Froome will hope to follow up his stunning Tour de France success with Great Britain’s first gold of Rio 2016, but he faces a tough challenge.
