Friday 19th August

There will be 22 gold medals up for grabs on day 14 of Rio 2016, including the women’s hockey as Great Britain go up against the Netherlands. Team GB also have contenders in taekwondo and the modern pentathlon, while another pulsating night beckons at the Olympic Stadium with the finals of the sprint relays.

Pick of the Medal Events

Hockey: Women’s Final - Netherlands v Great Britain (21:00 BST) - Great Britain’s women reached their first Olympic final thanks to an impressive 3-0 victory over New Zealand, extending their record to seven wins in a row in Rio. The Netherlands beat Germany on penalties in the last four and are slight favourites with bookmakers.

  • Odds: Netherlands 8/13, Draw 3/1, Great Britain 10/3 - Bet365

Athletics: Men’s 4x100m Relay Final (02:35 BST) – Usain Bolt will be hoping he is in a position to wrap up an unprecedented ‘triple treble’, having won the 100m, 200m and 4x100m at both Beijing and London. Jamaica do not usually have a problem getting the baton round, but the sprint relay can be a breathtakingly unpredictable event.

  • Odds: Jamaica 2/7, USA 5/2, Great Britain 20/1 - Betfred

Athletics: Women’s 4x100m Relay Final (02:15 Saturday BST) – The stage is set for a showdown between Jamaica and the USA, but Great Britain could also push for a spot on the podium. The quartet of Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita broke the national record to win at the London Anniversary Games last month.

  • Odds: Jamaica 4/7, USA 7/4, Trinidad and Tobago 20/1, Great Britain 25/1 - Coral

Cycling: Men’s BMX Final (19:10 BST) - It is the final of both BMX events on Friday and Team GB’s best chance of a medal may come in the men’s event, where Liam Phillips will hope to get the better of France’s European champion Joris Daudet.

  • Odds: Joris Daudet (FRA) 4/1, Niek Kimmann (NED) 7/2, Maris Strombergs (LAT), Liam Phillips (GBR) 10/1 - Paddy Power

Best of the Rest

Football: Women’s Final - Sweden v Germany (21:30 BST) - Sweden stunned hosts Brazil with a victory on penalties in the semi-finals, while Germany took revenge on Canada following a defeat in the group stage.

Taekwondo: Men’s 80kg (Final at 02:15 Saturday BST) - There is the potential for a real grudge match in the final as Great Britain’s Lutalo Muhammad could come up against Dorset-born Aaron Cook, who is representing Moldova after being controversially left out by Team GB in 2012.

Modern Pentathlon: Women’s Event (Concludes at 22:00 BST) - Great Britain have won at least one modern pentathlon medal at every Olympics since it was introduced in Sydney. Can Samantha Murray improve on her silver from London 2012?

  • Sports.net’s top tip - Aaron Cook to win the men’s Taekwondo (80kg) - 7/2 at Ladbrokes
