Sunday 21th August

Day 16 has arrived and it is almost time to bid farewell to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, but before the curtain closes on a memorable two weeks of superb sporting action, there is still time for 12 more events to reach their respective conclusions. Here’s what to look out for on the final day of competition in Brazil.

Pick of the Medal Events

Athletics: Men’s Marathon (13:30 BST) - Hoping to take inspiration from the success of the Brownlee brothers in the triathlon, brothers Derek and Callum Hawkins will be looking to add one last gold medal to Team GB’s impressive collection. A win for either sibling would be an ideal way to bring the country’s most successful overseas campaign to a close, but the duo face stiff competition from Kenya’s formidable pairing of Eliud Kipchoge and Stanley Biwott.

  • Odds: Eliud Kipchoge 4/5, Stanley Biwott 6/1, Feyisa Lelisa 7/1 - Bet365

Cycling: Men’s Cross Country Final (16:30 BST) - The Olympic cycling comes to a close with the men’s cross country final. Switzerland's Nino Schurter is favourite to take gold, but he will have to fend off competition from French rider Julien Absalon and Slovakia’s Peter Sagan if the Swiss hope to finish with another gold medal in cycling.

  • Odds: Nino Schurter 6/5, Julien Absalon 9/4, Peter Sagan 7/1 - Sky Bet

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Nino Schurter to win gold in cross-country - 6/5 with Sky Bet
