The medal events continue to flow with 28 Olympic champions set to be crowned on an action-packed fifth day. Team GB’s Chris Froome and Emma Pooley both have their sights set on first-place finishes in the time trials, while gymnasts Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson will be eying success in the men’s individual all-around event.

Pick of the Medal Events

Cycling: Women’s Time Trial (12:30 BST) - Emma Pooley aims to become the first British cyclist to win an Olympic gold at Rio as she competes for the women’s time trial title. The 33-year-old faces stiff competition from Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen, who is heavily tipped to take the top spot on the podium. Danish-born New Zealander Linda Villumsen and American Evelyn Stevens could also prove a formidable force.

  • Odds: Anna van der Breggen 2/1, Linda Villumsen 7/2, Evelyn Stevens 8/1 - Coral

Cycling: Men’s Time Trials (14:00 BST) - The men’s time trials sees Great Britain’s Chris Froome go in search of gold. The three-time Tour de France champion collected a bronze medal in the same event four years ago, but will be hoping to power his way to the front of the pack in Rio. Froome, who finished 12th in the road race, will be looking to fend off competition from Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands and Australia’s Rohan Dennis, both of whom could deny the Brit top honours.

  • Odds: Tom Dumoulin 5/4, Chris Froome 6/4, Rohan Dennis 13/2 - Bet365

Rowing: Men’s Quadruple Sculls Final (14:22 BST) - Great Britain will be hoping to overcome the odds and claim victory in the men’s quadruple sculls final. The quartet of Jack Beaumont, Sam Townsend, Angus Groom and Peter Lambert will hope that they can put a disappointing heat behind them and produce a superhuman display to grab gold. However, the Brits are not tipped for success by the bookies, as Australia have been set as the clear favourites.

  • Odds: Australia 8/13, Germany 4/1, Estonia 6/1 - Boylesports

Gymnastics: Men’s Individual All-Around Event Final (20:00 BST) - Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson must put the disappointment of missing out on a medal in the team event to the back of their minds as they compete for individual gold. The teammates will have their work cut out to wrestle the title away from the red-hot favourite Kohei Uchimura, with the Japanese gymnast looking to collect his second gold of the competition. Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev and China’s Shudi Deng will also prove difficult to overcome.

  • Odds: Kohei Uchimura 4/9, Oleg Verniaiev 3/1, Shudi Deng 8/1 - Sky Bet

Best of the Rest

Diving: Men’s Synchronized 3 Metre Springboard (20:00 BST) - Chris Mears and Jack Laugher will have their sights firmly focused on bringing home a gold medal, but the duo face fierce competition from China and Russia.

Rugby Sevens: (16:30 BST) - Following the women’s failure to capture a medal, Team GB’s men will hope that they can build on victories over Kenya and Japan with a win against a hotly-tipped New Zealand side.

Hockey: (17:30 BST) - Great Britain’s women's hockey team head into their Group B match with Argentina hoping to make it three wins out of three following victories over Australia and India.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Chris Froome to win gold in men’s time trial - 6/4 at Bet365
