Premier League Betting Preview: Chelsea v West Brom

Updated Monday 12th December 2016, 08:57 AM

Chelsea will be looking to extend a superb run of eight Premier League wins in a row when they take on West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge this Sunday 11th December. The Blues are currently sitting pretty at the top of the league table, whilst West Brom are some 14 points behind in seventh place, so it isn’t surprising that the bookies have the match pegged as a clear-cut win for the home side. The big question is where the best value can be found for betting purposes.

How the Bookies See It:

  • Winner: Chelsea 1/4, Draw 19/4, West Brom 10/1 – SkyBet
  • Under/Over 2.5 Goals: Under 6/5, Over 8/13 – Paddy Power
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes 23/20, No 13/20 – William Hill

  • Chelsea really couldn’t be in much better form this season. The team have won 11 of their 14 premiership games, with just two losses and one draw. All but one of their home games have resulted in a home win, and they have earned three points in each of their last eight games. Their most recent match was an away fixture at Manchester City on Saturday 3rd December, where they won 3-1, and a home game with Tottenham on Saturday 26th November, which they won 2-1. Chelsea have scored 32 goals and conceded 11 from the 14 premiership games they have played, and that gives the team an average of 2.28 goals per match.
  • West Bromwich Albion have won 5, drawn 5 and lost 4 of their 14 Premier League games, and the encouraging news for fans of the team is that they are currently enjoying their best patch of the season. Three of their five wins have been achieved in their last four games, and most recently (on Saturday 3rd December, to be precise) they beat Watford 3-1. Prior to that, they held Hull to a 1-1 draw, achieved a 4-0 win over Burnley and secured a 2-1 win when visiting Leicester. West Brom have scored 20 goals and conceded 17 from 14 games, for an average of 1.42 goals per match.’s View

There is no doubt that West Brom have improved quite markedly in recent weeks, and have finally managed to emerge from a sequence of nine games with just one win to start a much better sequence of four games without a loss. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that they have reached the same level as table leaders Chelsea, who have done little wrong all season and have only failed to earn three points on one occasion when playing at home.

The odds available about Chelsea to win the match are too short to interest us for betting purposes, so we are much more interested in the Under/Over 2.5 Goals market at Paddy Power. Every home game that Chelsea has played this season has seen three or more goals being scored, and we don’t expect that pattern to change this weekend. We will therefore bet on there being more than 2.5 goals and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Chelsea end up scoring most – if not all – of them.

•’s top tip: Over 2.5 Goals – 8/13 with Paddy Power

*Please note that odds may fluctuate in the run-up to kick-off.
