Premier League Betting Preview: Manchester City v West Ham United

Updated Tuesday 30th August 2016, 07:58 AM

Manchester City will looking to make it three wins from three in the league and maintain their impressive start to the season under Pep Guardiola. Standing in their way are West Ham, a team who left it late in their last game to pick up maximum points, but enter this game with a critical lack of striking options. How will it all play out on Sunday?

How the Bookies See it

  • Winner: Manchester City 3/10, Draw 5/1, West Ham United 10/1 - BetVictor
  • First Goalscorer: Sergio Aguero 5/2, Kelechi Iheanacho 10/3, Nolito 9/2 - Bet365
  • Correct Score: Manchester City 2-0 15/2, Manchester City 3-0 17/2, Manchester City 2-1 17/2 - BetVictor

Manchester City have started the new campaign in fine form and find themselves with a maximum six points from their first two games. A 2-1 win over Sunderland at the Etihad was followed up with a 4-1 thrashing of Stoke at the Bet365 Stadium. City have also enjoyed early success on the continental stage as they qualified for the group stages of the Champions League with a comfortable 6-0 aggregate win against Steaua Bucharest.

West Ham United began the season with a narrow defeat to city rivals Chelsea before picking up a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the club’s first league match at the London Stadium. So far, the Hammers have not looked as impressive as they did last term, but under the tutelage of Slaven Bilic their results and performances will almost certainly improve. West Ham come into this game off the back of a Europa League tie with Astra Giurgiu, so they could face something of a hangover. ’s view

Manchester City have not found goals hard to come by in Guardiola’s first few matches, racking up 12 goals in their opening four competitive games. City’s blitz is partly down to the hard work of Sergio Aguero, who has been in scintillating form and is already the joint-highest scorer in the league. Unsurprisingly, the Argentine forward commands very short odds to score in this game, so a bet of Aguero to score at anytime and Manchester City to win 2-0 may be a better option - 4/1 with William Hill. City teammate Raheem Sterling could also be worth keeping an eye on to net in this game. The former Liverpool winger looks to be benefitting from the influence of Guardiola and is handsomely priced at 13/8 with Bet365 to break the deadlock.

West Ham face something of a crisis ahead of their trip to Manchester. Slaven Bilic is in desperate need of a striker following long-term injuries to Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho, and may be forced to turn to the out-of-favour Enner Valencia or the 20-year-old Ashley Fletcher to lead the attack in this game. With such an overly crowded treatment room, don’t expect the Hammers to score many, with a goalless draw or a very scrappy 1-0 win looking like their best chances of getting anything from this game. West Ham are 10/1 with Sky Bet to keep a clean sheet, a bet that could come off if the visitors sit deep and frustrate City’s wealth of superstars.
