UEFA Champions League Betting Tips: Arsenal v PSG

Updated Thursday 24th November 2016, 08:49 AM

Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday in a UEFA Champions League match which is likely to decide the winner of Group A. Both teams have already booked their spot in the last 16 after collecting ten points from their first four matches, but finishing first in the pool will be essential to boosting their chances of progressing deeper into the competition.

How the Bookies See it

  • Winner: Arsenal 13/10, Draw 12/5, PSG 12/5 - Betfred
  • First Goalscorer: Edinson Cavani 9/2, Alexis Sanchez 5/1, Olivier Giroud 5/1, Theo Walcott 13/2 - Sky Bet
  • Correct Score: Draw 1-1 13/2, Arsenal 2-0 8/1, Arsenal 2-1 17/2 - BetVictor

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in all competitions since the opening weekend of the Premier League season, although they needed a last-gasp leveller from Olivier Giroud to salvage a 1-1 draw from a disappointing display against Manchester United on Saturday. They have performed impressively in the Champions League so far this term, scoring 12 goals in four matches to seal a place in the next round with two games to spare.
  • PSG have also cruised through to the last 16 with a couple of group matches still to play, having beaten Basel home and away and seen off Ludogorets Razgrad 3-1 in Bulgaria. They beat Nantes 2-0 at the weekend for a third straight Ligue 1 win, but remain three points adrift of domestic league leaders Nice.
  • Arsenal came from behind to draw 1-1 when the teams met at the Parc des Princes in September, with Alexis Sanchez cancelling out Edinson Cavani’s first-minute opener. The Gunners have the better goal difference at present and will travel to Basel for their final group game, while PSG will host Ludogorets.

Sports.net’s View

While Arsenal have a proud record of reaching the Champions League knockout phase, they have not won their group since 2011/12 and have not advanced beyond the round of 16 since 2010, so they will be desperate to take this opportunity to finish ahead of PSG and increase their chances of getting a kinder draw in the next stage. They may have been well below par against Manchester United, but the way substitutes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud combined for the late equaliser underlined just how many options Arsene Wenger has at his disposal, and confidence will still be high following an excellent recent run.

Hector Bellerin was badly missed at the weekend and PSG will hope to capitalise on any vulnerability in the Arsenal defence, with Cavani the main threat. The Uruguayan is top of the scoring charts in Ligue 1 and has netted four times in the Champions League already this season, including his goal after 42 seconds in the home game against Arsenal.

There certainly isn’t much between the teams and odds of 12/5 with William Hill on a draw look quite inviting, as does a price of 6/1 for the match to finish 1-1. Another intriguing market is William Hill’s anytime goalscorer double, and Cavani and Giroud appear in such good form that it might be worth a flutter on both men to hit the target at 5/1.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Edinson Cavani and Olivier Giroud to score anytime - 5/1 at William Hill
