UEFA Champions League: Monaco v Tottenham Betting Tips

Tottenham Hotspur face a tricky trip to the Stade Louis II where Ligue 1 side Monaco lie in wait. This is a must-win game for the North London side, who are in danger of exiting Europe’s premier competition prematurely. Meanwhile, Monaco currently sit top of Group E and are yet to taste defeat in the Champions League this term. Both sides will be desperate for a win in this game as the tussle for places in the knockout stages intensifies.

How the Bookies See it

  • Winner: Monaco 11/8, Tottenham 9/5, Draw 5/2 - Bet365
  • Correct Score: Draw 1-1 6/1, Monaco 1-0 15/2, Tottenham 1-0 8/1 - BetVictor
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes 8/11, No 11/10 - BetVictor

  • Tottenham Hotspurs’ return to the Champions League has been relatively underwhelming. The North London side began their Group E exploits with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Monaco under the Wembley Arch, before a 1-0 victory away to CSKA Moscow gave Spurs their first and only three points of the current European campaign. A double header against Bayer Leverkusen saw the club from the capital slide down the table following a 0-0 stalemate in Germany and a frustrating 2-1 home defeat. On home soil, Tottenham are unbeaten in the league, but have fallen down the pecking order of late after a succession of draws.
  • AS Monaco’s run of Group E results has been inconsistent, but the French side are unbeaten in their four games so far. An opening win against Tottenham was followed by 1-1 draws at home to Bayer Leverkusen and away to CSKA. In the reverse fixture, the French side rectified their mistakes to see off the Russians and go into their final two group games top of the pile. Domestically, the men from the Mediterranean currently find themselves narrowly behind early pacesetters Nice in the race for the Ligue 1 title.

Sports.net’s View

Monaco have an impressive record when it comes to facing English sides. In 15 meetings with teams from across the Channel, the Ligue 1 side have racked up seven wins and four draws, including memorable wins over both Arsenal and Chelsea. Expect the home side to pose a threat, with Premier League flop Radamel Falcao likely to worry the Spurs backline. The Columbian captain could inspire his team to victory, an outcome that is priced at 6/4 with Ladbrokes, while a win to nil could be worth considering at 3/1 with William Hill.

Tottenham’s inability to win at Wembley has placed question marks over their future in this year’s tournament, but their away form has been far better. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have picked up four points on the continent and will certainly need to earn themselves at least a draw in this game if they are to salvage their dying hopes of qualification. Games between the top three sides in Group E have been cagey affairs so far, with just the odd goal making the difference. A Spurs win by a single goal looks tempting, with 1-0 priced at 17/2 and 2-1 coming in at 10/1, but perhaps a draw might be a more realistic bet, especially given the recent form displayed by the team from the Lane.

  • Sports.net’s top tip: Draw 1-1 - 13/2 at BetVictor
