Stipe Miocic won his heavyweight title when he knocked out Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198 in Brazil in May. The 34-year-old has lost just one of his last seven fights and three of his five most recent victories have come in the first round, including his disposal of Andrei Arlovski at UFC 195 after just 54 seconds.
Alistair Overeem is on a run of four victories, the most recent of which was also over Arlovski, although the Dutchman had to wait until the second round to finish off his opponent with a technical knockout.
CM Punk is an unknown quantity in MMA, stepping inside the Octagon for the first time on Saturday. Mickey Gall has only two professional fights to his name, but has won both by submission in the first round thanks to his rear naked choke.
Miocic is the bookies’ favourite for the main event and, even though Overeem is a worthy opponent, the American certainly looks worth a punt when you consider the speed with which he usually defeats his opponents and the fact he will have the hometown crowd behind him. With only 4/6 on offer for a straight win bet, it is worth going for Miocic by knockout, technical knockout, submission or disqualification at 11/10. If you think the Dutchman will hold him, but have the decision go the way of the champion, you can find odds of 15/2. For Overeem to win by a decision, there is 9/1.
Mickey Gall is expected to add a third victory to his 100 percent UFC record, but CM Punk could spring a surprise. No one really knows what he has in the tank, so 7/2 is an tempting price on the former wrestler marking his debut with a win.
- Sports.net’s Top Tip - Miocic by KO, TKO, submission or disqualification at 11/10
