- Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson has won 22 of his 22 career fights and has not suffered a defeat since he lost to Michael Johnson via a unanimous points decision in May 2012. However, he has barely competed in the last couple of years and his last bout was a comprehensive points win over Rafael dos Anjos in November 2016.
- Kevin ‘The Motown Phenom’ Lee has been more active than Ferguson and has produced a couple of superb performances this year to take his career win-loss record to 16-2. A high-kicking rampage gave him the opportunity to finish off Francisco Trinaldo in only the second round in March. He was then granted a controversial first-round submission victory over Michael Chiesa in June, even though his rear-naked choke had not forced his opponent to tap out.

Ferguson is the clear favourite with the bookies and has the record to back up such a status. He has not been beaten in five years, is far more experienced than Lee and has an impressive all-round style. He has spoken with confidence about how he is in tremendous shape following weeks of training at altitude on Big Bear Mountain in California, and he certainly has the capabilities to put the younger man in his place.
However, Lee has laughed off all of Ferguson’s ‘running with the bears’ and is right not to take too much notice as all the training in the world is no substitute for time spent in the Octagon, and Ferguson could well be rusty after so many months away. Lee has shown his versatility in recent bouts, coming back from some early punishment to beat Trinaldo and then getting the better of Chiesa. He looks to be learning quickly and, at odds of 7/4, could be worth a punt to upset the odds.
