Vitality Netball Superleague - Round 14 Preview and Betting Tips

Updated Thursday 21st February 2019, 12:29 PM

The race to land a top four place took another huge twist in Round 13 as Team Bath shocked fans at the Copper Box Arena by shutting down Surrey Storm. Now, the defending champions must pick themselves up ahead of their meeting with top-of-the-league Loughborough Lightning or risk surrendering their Superleague crown without a fight. Elsewhere, the division’s top three clubs will all look to consolidate their places in the final four, while Team Northumbria and Celtic Dragons face a battle for pride at the bottom of the table. Which sides will triumph in Round 14?

The Fixtures

Team Northumbria v Celtic Dragons - Disappointing performances over the bank holiday weekend saw Team Northumbria fail to add to their tally of two wins all season, but the girls from Newcastle must be feeling confident ahead of their upcoming fixture with Celtic Dragons, the only team below them in the table. With both sides suffering this season, the two camps will sense that this match presents an ideal opportunity to snatch a must-needed three points. Expect home advantage to make the difference, as the women from Wales fall just short.

  • Top Tip: Team Northumbria to win - 1/4

Hertfordshire Mavericks v Sirens - A narrow win over bottom side Celtic Dragons saw Hertfordshire Mavericks record just their fifth win of the season and their first points since Round Nine. This weekend, the Superleague’s blatant underachievers must take down Sirens if they are to keep their faint hopes of making the top four alive. Victory will not be easy though, as Sirens look to bounce straight back from their defeat to Loughborough Lightning in the last round of fixtures. Expect a tight affair, with the Scots narrowly edging the contest to crush any thoughts the Mavericks had of replicating last year’s semi-final appearance.

  • Top Tip: Sirens to win - 5/4

Surrey Storm v Loughborough Lightning - After overcoming Hertfordshire Mavericks in Round 12, Surrey Storm looked to be back to their best, but defeat to Team Bath two days later blew the race for fourth place wide open once more. Now, the defending champions face a Loughborough Lightning side who picked themselves straight back up following defeat to Wasps in Round 12 to record a 57-46 victory away to Sirens. With Storm struggling to gather points, Lightning could run riot and seriously dent the Guildford side’s chances of making this year’s semis.

  • Top Tip: Loughborough Lightning - 2/7

Severn Stars v Manchester Thunder - Manchester Thunder continued their impressive form in this season’s Superleague by putting Team Northumbria to the sword on bank holiday Monday, and last year’s runners-up will be eyeing another big win this Saturday when they travel to Worcester. Their opponents, Severn Stars, saw any hopes they harboured of making it to this year’s top four ended with two heavy defeats in the space of three days, leaving the division’s newcomers with only pride to play for in the final five games of the season. Expect Thunder to wrap up victory and a place in this season’s semi-finals with a rousing display.

  • Top Tip: Manchester Thunder to win - 2/9

Team Bath v Wasps - Team Bath’s superb 56-49 win away to Surrey Storm in Round 12 breathed new life into the race for a top four spot. With momentum behind them, the Somerset side must now push on as they aim to capitalise on any more errors committed by the reigning champions. That might be easier said than done, however, as Anna Stembridge’s girls welcome Wasps, a team buzzing after hard-fought victories against Loughborough Lightning and Severn Stars over the extended weekend. Even Bath’s best efforts may not be enough to keep this season’s top scorer Rachel Dunn at bay as Wasps continue to gather pace ahead of June’s semi-finals.

  • Top Tip: Wasps to win - 1/7
