Sirens v Hertfordshire Mavericks - Despite having only pride to play for, Sirens produced a spirited display as they came from behind to beat Surrey Storm and severely dent the Guildford side’s hopes of finishing in the top four. Much like their Superleague counterparts, Hertfordshire Mavericks recorded a morale boosting win in Round 17 in a low-scoring contest against Severn Stars. Needless to say, both teams will be looking to continue their mini runs of form and end the season on a high. This has all the makings of a tight contest, though the girls from north of the border should win out in the end.
- Top Tip: Sirens to win - 1/7
Celtic Dragons v Team Northumbria - The 2017 campaign has certainly been one to forget for both of these teams. Celtic Dragons, whose season was summed up as they were mercilessly ripped apart by Wasps last weekend, have just a solitary win to their name and are destined to finish bottom of the pile, while Team Northumbria have also failed to impress this term, having picked up just nine points all year. Despite being the very definition of a dead rubber, this game will give both sides the chance to salvage some joy from what has been a thoroughly disappointing few months, but it’s hard to see anything other than further woe for the women from Wales.
- Top Tip: Team Northumbria to win - 2/7
Wasps v Team Bath - Wasps may have recorded the biggest win of the season so far over a hapless Celtic Dragons, but the real story from Round 17 was Team Bath’s colossal victory over third-placed Manchester Thunder. The Somerset side, needing all the wins they can muster in order to snatch a place in the top four, now find themselves in pole position in their race with Surrey Storm for a semi-final spot. One more win would be enough for the girls in blue and yellow, but they will need to be on top of their game if they are to overcome a Wasps side who will be determined to maintain momentum ahead of next weekend’s Final Four showpiece. However, the determination shown by Superleague’s most decorated club could be enough to edge this contest and guarantee their season doesn’t end prematurely.
- Top Tip: Team Bath to win - 11/4
Manchester Thunder v Severn Stars - Manchester Thunder may have suffered defeat at the hands of Team Bath on Monday night, but other results meant that last year’s Grand Finalist secured their place in the Superleague semis for yet another season. The two-time champions will now look to grow in confidence ahead of next weekend’s meeting of the final four, a finale in which Thunder will enjoy home advantage. One last win shouldn’t be too much to ask, especially against a Severn Stars team who have endured a challenging first season.
- Top Tip: Manchester Thunder to win (with a handicap of -10.5) - 5/6
Loughborough Lightning v Surrey Storm - A disastrous final quarter saw Surry Storm snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in their game final home game of the season against Sirens. Now, the 2015 and 2016 champions face the prospect of finishing outside of the Superleague’s top four and must win if they are to stand any chance of defending their title. However, make-or-break games don’t come much more difficult than against the division’s runaway leaders, Loughborough Lightning, a side who have lost just once this term. Should Storm be given a helping hand by Wasps earlier in the day, expect the girls from Guildford to go all out in pursuit of victory; however, such an attack-minded approach could leave them susceptible to lightning fast breaks from Loughborough.
- Top Tip: Loughborough Lightning to win - 1/4
