Vitality Netball Superleague - Week Four Preview and Betting Tips

Updated Thursday 21st February 2019, 12:33 PM

Another enthralling weekend beckons in the Vitality Netball Superleague, with the season now well into its stride and a trio of teams jostling for position at the top. Two of the three sides with unbeaten records will go head-to-head at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday as Wasps face Loughborough, while Surrey Storm will go in search of a fourth straight win against Hertfordshire Mavericks.

The Fixtures

Manchester Thunder v Celtic Dragons - 7th v 10th

Manchester Thunder would not have been thankful to the fixture setters after they had to start their season with games against Loughborough and Surrey, but they bounced back last weekend to claim their first win against Sirens, and will fancy their chances against a Celtic Dragons side that has yet to get past 50 points in any match this season. The Dragons were crushed 73-36 by Sirens a couple of weeks ago and a similarly one-sided match could be on the cards.

  • Top tip: Manchester Thunder to win (with -12.5 handicap) 5/6

Surrey Storm v Hertfordshire Mavericks - 1st v 6th (TV)

Surrey Storm have made a blistering start to their defence of the Superleague, reeling off three convincing victories in a row. They have yet to be seriously pushed and Hertfordshire’s best chance may be trying to keep it close and then hoping that Surrey struggle to cope with the pressure. The Mavericks’ only win so far was a narrow 53-48 success at home to struggling Team Northumbria on the opening weekend, but they have competed well against both Team Bath and Wasps Netball and will not be pushovers.

  • Top tip: Surrey Storm to win 1/8

Severn Stars v Team Bath - 8th v 4th

Severn Stars got their Superleague campaign up and running with a 53-46 win over Celtic Dragons last weekend, having previously been outclassed by Surrey Storm and Loughborough Lightning. Team Bath were also beaten by Loughborough last time out, but they had notched wins in both of their opening games and should have too much experience for the Stars.

  • Top tip: Team Bath to win 4/11

Wasps Netball v Loughborough Lightning - 2nd v 3rd

Two unbeaten records will be on the line as Loughborough Lightning travel to Coventry to face Wasps in the pick of the weekend’s encounters. Both teams cruised to victory in their first two matches before having to work harder last week. Wasps’ home advantage could just give them the edge, although if Vanessa Walker plays to the level she did last week then Lightning will be hard to stop.

  • Top tip: Wasps Netball to win 2/5

Team Northumbria v Sirens - 9th v 5th

Sirens produced arguably the most eye-catching result of the season so far when they hammered Celtic Dragons 73-36, but they have lost their other two matches and will want to start showing greater consistency. Team Northumbria are without a win so far and have the worst defensive record in the league, so it will be very tough for them to keep Sirens quiet.

  • Top tip: Sirens to win (with -8.5 handicap) 5/6
